Through land claim and self-government agreements and devolution to territorial governments, Indian and Northern Affairs Canada (INAC) continues to transfer responsibility and control over lands, resources and the environment to Aboriginal people and Northerners. Alongside these efforts, the Department still fulfills important roles in developing natural resources and protecting the environment in many First Nations communities and in the territories.
INAC works closely with Aboriginal and Northern partners to develop strategies to address climate change and environmental issues while facilitating economic development.
